ECO Divemaster in Costa Rica
We all want to feel that our actions have a positive impact and at Oceans Unlimited that is a fundamental part of our professional training programs. We are partnered with a local marine conservation non-profit, and with their collaboration, we created the ECO Divemaster program. Our ECO divemaster program focuses on ocean advocacy. As well as the standard PADI Divemaster training it also includes fish ID classes, REEF check programs and clean ups and the option to work on our amazing coral restoration project. It also incorporates our marine conservation and research program, as well as community outreach initiatives designed to inspire conservation efforts in the local community. The only divemaster program to do so.

To start the Divemaster program you need your Rescue and Advanced certification. You also need to have at least 40 dives logged.
All of these prerequisites can be completed at the dive center before your Divemaster begins.

To start the Divemaster program you need your Rescue and Advanced certification. You also need to have at least 40 dives logged.
All of these prerequisites can be completed at the dive center before your Divemaster begins.
* Please note that all additional workshops and training are integrated throughout the program in group settings. Students on a time crunch or who frequently miss days during their programs, may not be able to complete these additional workshops. This will not affect the completion of your Divemaster or Instructor certification.
Prerequisites and required gear
PADI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent)

Current CPR / First Aid certification
Minimum 40 logged dives (if not, you may complete them on site)

(BCD, regulator, wetsuit included, but you may want your own)
We provide rental gear, but encourage students to bring personal essential items for comfort and familiarity.

Dive Schedule and Course Flow
- Morning sessions: theory, academics, briefings
Midday: water skills, drills, stamina exercises
Afternoon: assisting with open water courses, leading dives, gear maintenance
Evenings: self-study, intern tasks, specialty classes
Real on-the-job training: assist in dive shop operations, customer service, logistics
This sample schedule could also be switched around with Dives in the afternoon and academics or training in the morning.
FAQs
How long does the Divemaster program take? — 1 or 2 months depending on your schedule and learning pace.
What are the dive prerequisites? — Advanced, Rescue, CPR, 40 logged dives (we can help you fulfill missing prerequisites).
Do you include accommodations? — Accomodations are not included however we are able to offer local homestay options with local families or offer assistance to locate local apartments.
Is job placement guaranteed? — Whilst we can assist with suggestions on where to locate work after the program we cannot guarantee job placement.
Can I complete specialties during the program? — Yes, included specialties depend on the track (ECO or standard).
What daily schedule is typical? — Theory in the morning, skills and mentoring in afternoons, sometimes assisting in the shop. This can also be reversed with diving in the afternoon and training in the morning.
What is the cost and payment schedule? — To confirm a place on the program students will complete a reservation form before sending a deposit. Once received we will forward you your academics to start before you arrive.
