Stay hidden in holes and burrows, exit to feed and relocate
Diet:
Hunt prey which include: fish, crabs, worms and other shrimp (even other mantis shrimp)
Appendages:
Mantis shrimp have two types of claws
smashers: used to fight and smash their food apart
spearers: used to stab and snag prey
These claws have a great force and can be used to inflict pain on prey much bigger than themselves (can even puncture human skin). The shrimp strike rapidly creating cavitation bubbles between their claws and the prey they are striking. These bubbles create a great force on their prey. Have an acceleration of 23m/s. Can produce a force of 1500 newtons onto the prey.
Eyes
One of the most elaborate visual systems. They contain all the receptive cones that humans have plus 15 types of color receptive cones.
Can perceive both polarized light and multispectral images
Behavior:
Participate in ritualized fighting
Some species participate in monogamous species and can remain with the same partner for 20 years
