In a previous blog I compared Oceanic Blacktip Sharks to dogs because of their natural curiosity and eagerness to find treats. However, I’m not the first diver to make this comparison.

This National Geographic Australia video shows shark conservationist Jim Abernethy petting giant Tiger Sharks in a way you would never imagine possible. This incredible interaction between man and predator indicates exactly how little we know – or rather understand – about sharks.

In his Abernethy’s own words, “this is a very special, unique moment where we are actually making friends with a huge wild animal that the world believes that the world believes to be a vicious killer and the truth is so different.”
